Younger brother and inheritor of the GS750 concept
The GS550 is equipped with a lightweight and compact 550 cm³ air-cooled 4-stroke 4-cylinder DOHC engine that generates maximum horsepower of 51 PS and maximum torque of 41.1 kg-m. This engine is paired with the first 6-speed transmission in its class. Combined with a low seat and a dry weight of only 198 kg, the GS550 is an easy-to-handle and highly maneuverable model. It also features a hydraulic single disc brake at the front wheel. The GS550E, which features star-shaped cast wheels, debuted in 1978.
