The SV650/SV650S pair a 90-degree V-twin engine that delivers smooth and powerful dynamic performance from low to high speeds with a newly developed lightweight and supremely balanced chassis. The development concept pursued a combination of sporty, agile, and easy handling on city streets, with superb stability when touring. The highly rigid and lightweight oval-sectioned aluminum truss frame is both functional and stylish, helping to realize a dry weight of only 165 kg (SV650), the same as a bike in the 400 cm³ class. Stylistically different, the SV650 has a naked design, while the SV650S is equipped with a half fairing.

The SV650/SV650S are full model changes of the SV650/SV650S that debuted in 1999, and were developed for export only. Retaining the styling of the 2003 SV1000/SV1000S, these models round out the lineup of the SV series. The truss pipe frame structure is manufactured by a newly developed high-vacuum aluminum die-casting process, which realizes high rigidity while reducing weight. In Europe, these are key models for attracting entry-level riders.

The SV650 combines a V-twin engine that delivers a deep and emotional rumble in the low rpm range, powerful acceleration in the mid range, and smooth power characteristics right up to the redline with a slim and lightweight chassis to realize superlative handling. It also features the Low RPM Assist control function that raises engine speed slightly when launching the bike from a standing start or in low rpm riding conditions, making the bike easier to ride in stop-and-go urban traffic. The SV650 is also designed for superb convenience in day-to-day riding and includes the Suzuki Easy Start System that fires up the engine with a single press of a button. ABS is also provided as standard equipment.

Based on the V-twin-engined SV650 that debuted in 2016, the SV650X features custom sporty elements such as a new headlight fairing, separate clip-on handlebars, and a tuck-and-roll seat to create an individualistic and neo-retro cafe racer style. Optional fog lamps can also be added below the headlight. Similar to the SV650, the SV650X also includes the Suzuki Easy Start System and ABS as standard equipment.
