V-Strom1000

The V-Strom 1000 is the first bike in a new genre for Suzuki, combining the looks of an adventure tourer to stir the adventurous spirit of the rider with elements from sporty models, such as a high-performance V-twin engine and aluminum frame. The liquid-cooled 1,000 cm³ V-twin DOHC 4-valve engine from the TL1000S/R and SV1000/S is paired with a further refined fuel injection system to improve fuel economy and extend cruising range. Together with the aluminum frame, the V-Strom 1000 has a dry weight of only 207 kg. The name “Strom” is derived from the German expression for “stream of wind”.

V-Strom1000

A full model change of the previous generation V-Strom 1000, the latest model was designed under the concept “Wild & Smart.” Inheriting DNA from the large off-road DR-BIG that debuted overseas in 1988, the V-Strom 1000 combines powerful and untamed exterior design elements that epitomize the spirit of adventure with compact and smart styling that emphasizes agility. The 1,000 cm³ 4-stroke liquid-cooled 90° V-twin DOHC 4-valve engine enhances power and rideability in the low- to mid-rpm range. The 2014 V-Strom is also equipped with Suzuki’s first ever motorcycle Traction Control System. With three selectable modes, this system helps to deliver power from the engine to the rear wheel with greater efficiency. The V-Strom is also packed with additional features with practical applications under a wide range of riding scenarios, including a multi-function LCD instrument cluster and a height- and angle-adjustable windscreen.

Sport adventure tourer imbued with the DNA of the renowned DR-BIG

V-Strom1000

While retaining the wild and powerful styling of the 2014 model, the 2017 V-Strom 1000 features a new front design incorporating elements such as new vertical twin headlights. The 1,000 cm³ 4-stroke liquid-cooled 90° V-twin DOHC 4-valve engine delivers both power and usability in the low- to mid-rpm range. It achieves an excellent fuel economy rating of 32.1 km/L (60 km/h steady state fuel economy*) and complies with Japan’s 2016 emissions regulations. In addition to the same traction control system as the previous generation, the 2017 V-Strom 1000 also adopts the Motion Tracking Brake System that stabilizes the stance of the bike during braking. The V-Strom 1000XT, which features elegant wire-spoked wheels, is also equipped with aluminum tapered handlebars.

The 1,036 cm³ V-twin engine was refined to generate 5 kW more power. It features new technologies such as the versatile Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) electronic ride control system that covers a wide range of riding scenarios and includes the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) , which allows riders to select their preferred power characteristics from three different options, a traction control system with three modes and an off setting for diverse road conditions, and the like. As a result, the V-Strom 1050 and 1050XT offer riders even greater usability and convenience for long-distance touring. Based on design elements from both Suzuki’s legendary DR-Z desert racer and the large off-road DR-BIG, Suzuki’s first forays into the adventure bike market in 1988, the styling was updated in line with modern trends, emphasizing the powerful image of the bikes as the consummate sport adventure tourer models.
