Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the Indian automobile subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has introduced a battery energy storage system at its Kharkhoda plant and has commenced its operation.
At the Kharkhoda plant, electricity generated by on-site solar power facilities (20 MW) and other renewable energy sources is used for production activities.
The battery energy storage system introduced at the Kharkhoda plant combines a 1 MWh storage battery with a power control system, enabling electricity to be stored during periods of surplus power generation and facility holidays, and utilized for production activities when the efficiency of solar power generation declines. This system contributes to the stabilization of the power grid and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 54 tons annually.
Suzuki will continue to actively utilize renewable energy, contributing to the realization of a carbon-neutral society targeted by the Government of India and the development of a sustainable society.
