Suzuki, Hamamatsu, Tenryu Forestry and Timber Industry Promotion Council, and Somic Ishikawa Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Establish a Local Circulation Cycle for Forest-Based J-Credits

Suzuki Motor Corporation (“Suzuki”), Hamamatsu, Tenryu Forestry and Timber Industry Promotion Council, and Somic Ishikawa Inc. (“Somic Ishikawa”) today announced they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a local circulation cycle for forest-based J-Credits within the Hamamatsu area.

This MOU serves as a framework for the involved parties to collaboratively pursue the establishment of a local circulation cycle for forest-based J-Credits generated within the Hamamatsu area. Hamamatsu will manage the discussion forum as its secretariat, with the Tenryu Forestry and Timber Industry Promotion Council participating as the representative of the J-credit generation side. Suzuki and Somic Ishikawa will participate as user companies, working in conjunction with the administration and related organizations to create a system led by the generation side.

Under this MOU, discussions will be held collaboratively by the stakeholders on mechanisms for utilizing forest-based J-Credits generated through forest conservation activities in the Hamamatsu area within the region itself. This initiative aims to create an open scheme in the future that allows for the participation of a diverse range of local companies and organizations, contributing to the promotion of regional forestry, the maintenance of forest functions, the circular utilization of forest resources, and the revitalization of the local economy.

Suzuki aims to achieve carbon neutrality at all its domestic plants in Japan by FY2035. The company will promote carbon neutrality and regional forest conservation simultaneously through measures such as minimizing energy consumption during manufacturing, utilizing renewable energy, and purchasing forest-based J-Credits.

Reference: As a company rooted in Hamamatsu, Suzuki prioritizes co-creation with the community and signed a purchase agreement with Tenryu Forester Co., Ltd. in March 2026 for the first forest J-Credits made in Hamamatsu.
