Suzuki Signs Purchase Agreement for
the First Forest J-Credit Made in Hamamatsu

– Initiatives to Promote Forest Conservation in the
Tenryu Region and Regional Carbon Neutrality –

Suzuki Motor Corporation (hereinafter “Suzuki”) has signed a purchase agreement with Tenryu Forester Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture; Representative Director: Akira Yokoyama; hereinafter “Tenryu Forester”). Tenryu Forester has generated the first Forest J-Credit* made in Hamamatsu through appropriate forest management in the Tenryu region of Hamamatsu.

The Tenryu region, located in the northern part of Hamamatsu, has long been known as a region producing high-quality timber. The wood produced in the Tenryu River basin has been distributed to many areas as Tenryu timber. However, in recent years, the environment surrounding Tenryu timber has become increasingly challenging due to changes in economic and social conditions, such as the increase in imported timber and the declining population.

Tenryu Forester, with its management philosophy of “Connecting forestry to the future and connecting people to the future,” is engaged in businesses such as forest development and forest management. In addition, by taking on the challenges of new initiatives such as the creation of Forest J-Credits, the company aims to foster forests that will be passed down to the next generation.

Suzuki, empathizing with and wishing to support Tenryu Forester’s initiatives, has entered into this Forest J-Credits purchase agreement. Through the purchase of Forest J-Credits, Suzuki aims to cooperate in the conservation of the rich forests of its home region, Hamamatsu, and pave the way for future procurement by proactively utilizing Forest J-Credits generated locally.

Moving forward, Suzuki aims to achieve carbon neutrality at all its domestic plants in Japan by FY2035. The company will pursue both the promotion of carbon neutrality and local forest conservation through measures such as minimizing energy consumption during manufacturing, utilizing renewable energy, and utilizing Forest J-Credits.
