Suzuki worldwide

Since the launch of its first car product in 1955, the "Suzulight", Suzuki has developed in line with the growth of the automobile industry. It is now a major company, with innovative products and distribution networks worldwide.

Suzuki Motor Corporation is known first and foremost as a car and motorcycle manufacturer, but the company also designs other products such as its world renowned outboard motors, electricity generators, etc.
With respect to cars, Suzuki continues to concentrate its activity in the compact car sector, a large market full of potential, in which Suzuki is the world leader. In this context, Suzuki is accelerating its product development efforts, in order to increase their levels of safety and quality.
The company therefore has considerable expertise in the field of compact cars. Suzuki is a manufacturer whose financial profitability is remarkable in this sector which has the reputation of being difficult.

More than 30 million vehicles sold

The total number of vehicles sold by Suzuki worldwide since the creation of the company (figure as at the end of December 2001) has now reached more than 30 million.

These cumulative sales at the end of December 2001 are made up as follows:

Japanese market
On the Japanese market, Suzuki has been the market leader in terms of sales in the "Mini" segment (cars less than 3.50 metres in length and a maximum of 660 cc) for almost 30 years without a break. Cumulative sales of this type of vehicle on the home market have reached a figure of 13.8 million over more than 46 years.
Suzuki has also been selling larger sized vehicles since 1965, and total sales for these is now 0.8 million units on the Japanese home market.
The total number of cars sold on the Japanese market has thus reached 14.6 million units.
Sales forecasts for 2002 are in the region of 660,000 units, that is an increase of 6.3% over 2001, due to expected sales of the Wagon R+ and Alto models.
Moreover, in 2001 the Wagon R+ was again the leader in terms of sales (including all models) for the 5th consecutive year in Japan.

Export:
Vehicle exports started with the "Suzulight Carry" in 1961. Numerous other models have followed, including the "LJ" in 1970, the "Swift" in 1983, the "Vitara" in 1988, the "Baleno" in 1995, the "Wagon R+" in 1997, the "Grand Vitara" in 1998, the "Ignis" and the "XL-7" in 2000 and the "Liana" in 2001.
Total exports have reached 15.4 million units in 40 years. Suzuki exports cars to more than 170 countries.
Suzuki global production outside Japan (including all products) is currently spread over 19 countries including India, Canada and Hungary, and 22 factories. The models presented in this document are the versions which are distributed on the French market
