1. Introduction - The Liana Concept
When Suzuki introduced the Liana in 2001, we brought something totally
new to the market: a car that represents an uncompromising union between
intelligent packaging and excellent driving manners; a car that's both
truly practical and truly enjoyable; a car with an eye-catching hatchback
form that's unlike anything else on the road. With Suzuki's engineering
approach aimed at delivering the ideal balance of essential qualities,
the Liana has been a breath of fresh air in the segment.
Now, Suzuki has applied the Liana concept to the form of the sedan. The
result, our first new sedan of the 21st century, brings all of the Liana's
style, practicality, comfort, and performance to motorists who desire
a sedan that's truly distinctive. It's a bold response to motorists' needs
that helps to define Suzuki's future direction in passenger-car design
by redefining the compact sedan of today.
The name "Liana" stands for "Life In A New Age". The
new age envisaged by Suzuki is one in which the relationship between a
car and its users is reinvigorated and made more satisfying.
The Liana hatchback and sedan are intended to inspire new ventures on
the part of their users and to create possibilities for applications that
have perhaps not yet been conceived. With the Liana sedan, Suzuki points
the way even further into a new age of motoring enjoyment-an age in which
Suzuki aims to remain a leading manufacturer of uniquely satisfying compact
vehicles.
2. The Liana Sedan in Brief
The Liana sedan brings to the compact-vehicle segment all the attributes
that have made Suzuki's smaller cars, such as the Wagon R+ and Ignis,
such a resounding success. Key among these attributes are practicality
and immense user-friendliness. To these have been added unmistakable flair
and the enhanced versatility that comes from upsizing.
The shape of the Liana sedan is testimony to Suzuki's unflagging quest
for functionality. As an evolution of the monoform of the Liana hatchback,
it assures exceptional space efficiency, but it also reflects aerodynamic,
cabin-quietness, driver-comfort, and aesthetic considerations. The smooth,
tapered body achieves an excellent drag coefficient and reduces noise
in the cabin; the shape of the pillars and the depth of the glass area
enhance all-round visibility; even the more style-oriented details such
as the light clusters and bumpers have been carefully designed for aerodynamic
efficiency. Inside, the amount of interior space liberated from the compact
exterior dimensions is truly impressive.
It's a space in which to relax, with discreet upholstery colour schemes,
an uncluttered fascia, an air conditioner, and a large boot for anything
that might need to be carried. And calm prevails thanks to extensive sound-deadening
measures in the body and engine. The Liana sedan's owner can even afford
to relax when away from the car thanks to state-of-the-art security technologies.
Power is supplied by engines that are typical of Suzuki in that they provide
ample urge without a surfeit of capacity and its attendant thirst. The
1.3- and 1.6-litre, four-cylinder units have up-to-date, four-valve-per-cylinder
designs assuring accessible reserves of torque together with quiet running
and exemplary emissions performance.
MacPherson-strut suspension and hydraulically assisted steering are politely
tuned in accordance with European driving preferences. A four-channel
antilock braking system (ABS) is available. And there's the option of
permanent four-wheel drive with 1.6-litre models.
The Liana sedan is, in short, a resounding challenge to compact-vehicle
conventions-a challenge that's true to the spirit of Suzuki. |
