Suzuki’s Litros x Kilos Helps Both the Environment and Those in Need

From Spain

On 17 January 2023, a record was set at the 7th running of Litros x Kilos, a charity event that matches fuel consumption savings by Suzuki’s hybrid vehicles with donations of food for those in need. Sponsored by Suzuki Motor Ibérica, S.A.U. (SMI), the event invited 40 of Spain’s top auto journalists to drive a 57.3 km open road course just outside Madrid.

Vitara 1.5 Strong Hybrid

S-CROSS 1.4 Mild Hybrid

Behind the wheel of either a Vitara 1.5 Strong Hybrid or an S-CROSS 1.4 Mild Hybrid, for each litre of fuel the drivers saved, one kilo of food was donated to the Food Bank of Madrid. The fuel savings were significantly below the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure) standards. In the S-Cross category, the best results reduced consumption to 4.1L, 30.5% lower than the WLTP standard of 5.9L, while for Vitara, the best consumption performance was decreased to 3.8L, well below the WLTP standard of 5.8L, and a whopping reduction of 34.5%.

The drivers’ performance brought in a reduction of 2,120 litres but that was just the beginning. A new online promotional program added a social media dimension to the event. The automobile as well as motorcycle divisions of SMI were joined in this viral challenge along with journalists who also promoted the event. An additional kilo of food donation was made for each like by visitors to the social media sites. Social media likes reached 1,540, for an additional food donation of 1,540kg. This brought the total donation amount to an eye-popping 3,660 kg of food for indigent people and families!

On 25 January, Suzuki cars delivered loads of food to the Food Bank of Madrid. With this year’s donation, Suzuki has provided over 25 tons of food to date, which has helped 180,000 people every year. Through Litros x Kilos, SMI demonstrates how Suzuki cars help save fuel and improve the environment, but SMI also shows that neighbours in need are not forgotten.
