After leaving Salou in Spain, the SUZUKI World Rally Team arrived at Ajaccio, the largest city on the western coast of Corsica. Corsica where the Rallye de France Tour de Corse was held is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea after Sicily, Sardinia and Cyprus. The island has about 280 thousand people and more than 20% of them live in Ajaccio.
Most of the land is covered by precipitous mountains. Sheer precipice edges are especially common on the western coast. So, people who visit this island can enjoy the untouched nature on the cliffs and in the mountainous area. And of course, cities facing the sea are well known as coastal resorts among European people. Beautiful yachts were moored in the marina of Ajaccio.
Ajaccio is very famous as the home city of Napoleon Bonaparte. You can find his birthplace in the town.
Though Corsica is one of the regions of France, it has somewhat distinctive character. Referring to its cuisine, you will see the great marriage between the Mediterranean diet and the food from the mountains. We had grilled fish and seafood, fried calamari, lobster spaghetti and desserts containing sweet chestnut, fresh goat cheese, honey and fresh berries made in the hilly inland area.
