Do you know Valence?
All you have to do is to take a train from Lyon for Marseille, and you will get to Valence, not a big city in southern France with the population of 70,000, at around 65miles south of Lyon.
Despite the Rally Monte Carlo is hosted by the Principality of Monaco, the event is based in mainly this city as the service park locates. Look! A big poster is displayed on such a jewellery shop.
Why does the French city support the Rally 'Monte Carlo'?
In fact, there is a slight relation between Valence and Monaco in the historical context.
Valence was once duchy of Valentinois. Albert II, the Sovereign Prince of Monaco is hair of the title 'Duke of Valentinois'. So, if times had not changed, Valence would be ruled genuinely by him. As you might know, the title is actually honorary today.
In contrast to that the mornings and the evenings get downright cold as is always the case in the Alps, it is pleasant in daytimes with the temperature rises in midday to nearly 10 degrees Celsius. The downtown is crowded with a lot of people. For one thing, Western Europe is in the midst of the semi annual bargain sale until the end of this month. You can get dresses, bags, toys and all that at big discount! After that, people usually wait for the next sale for about a half year.
