Yoshimura Japan, one of the most Mr 100% Gregg Black took his third holeshot of the season at the Bol d’Or17successful and experienced teams in Suzuka 8-Hours, was fully entrusted by Suzuki Motor Corporation with a project to continue the marque’s dominance of the Endurance World Championship. Yoshimura Japan chose the 16-time EWC champion SERT as its team management partner and Motul also decided to support the project. The focus was to build the strongest team in the history of the FIM Endurance World Championship, and there was just one objective … to win!Early SeasonThe strength of the new partnership was evident from the outset when its pilots Gregg Black, Sylvain Guintoli and Xavier Siméon, with test rider Kazuki Watanabe in reserve, put the Factory Suzuki GSX-R1000R through its paces at the season opener, to win the coveted 24-Heures Motos at Le Mans by a full eight laps ahead of the competition.Sadly, things didn’t quite go according to plan at the 12-Hours of Estoril in Portugal. Yoshimura SERT Motul, with a great bike set-up and a margin of 16 points, was viewed as the favourite. However, as the race unfolded, the team experienced the lows of racing when Guintoli, and then later on, Siméon, crashed. In the true spirit of Endurance racing though, the riders and crew persevered, and their determination, together with the indestructible capabilities of the Suzuki, rewarded them with a 17th-place finish and 12 crucial points. Suzuka CancelledThe unpredictability of the 2021 race season continued when the relevant authorities made the decision to cancel the Suzuka 8 Hours, scheduled for November, due to an escalation of Covid-19 cases after the Olympic Games. A new-to-EWC, the 8 Hours of Most in the Czech Republic, was announced for October. This was later reduced to 6 hours in order to make optimum use of daylight hours and adhere to noise level restrictions.“Everything went perfectly well for us. I’m very happy to win again.” Yohei Kato, Team DirectorEWC 2021
