Damien Saulnier praying for Etienne Masson to bring back the title in the closingstages of the final round!Vincent Philippe in Sepang, MalaysiaSERT in Sepang - the last time 10-times World Champion Vincent Philippe would ride for the team before announcing his retirement29ROUND 2 – Sepang, MalaysiaThe new EWC venue of Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia for round 2, and the inaugural 8-Hours of Sepang, saw weather issues for the EWC series with the race delayed and then suspended. However, SERT riders Philippe, Masson and Black came away increasing their series lead after finishing fifth overall aboard the GSX-R1000.SERT completed a total of 79 laps and took three pit-stops during the event and headed confidently into the next round - the Le Mans 24-Hour in April - the team’s home race inFrance. The race was subsequently postponedthough and moved to August due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.Round 2: Sepang – December 14 . SERT (GSX-R1000) – 5th.TEAM SUZUKI RACING NEWSThere were more changes to the world championship from March 2020; date changes, venue changes, and cancellations. What’s more, the historic season finale at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan was also cancelled as travel restrictions became heavier in Japan.But, ongoing work by the FIM and series promoters Eurosport’s Promotions came up with a new plan that included the Le Mans 24 Hours race in France taking place – with no spectators - to comply with French laws and ‘local’ distancing laws.EWC 2019-2020 was back on track in August 2020. However, following the retirement announcement by long-term team member Vincent Philippe, a new rider was drafted into SERT. Xavier Simeon, a former Suzuki rider, current Endurance rider and Moto2, MotoE and MotoGP rider joined SERT for the remainder of the season.ROUND 3 – Le Mans, FranceAt the Circuit Bugatti for the 43rd Le Mans 24 Hours, team newcomer Xavier Simeon gelled with his teammates from the start. After only a few social-distanced test sessions aboard the GSX-R1000 and entering the event with a 15-point advantage, SERT increased that leadto 40 points with a third-place podium ffnish.SERT was always in the top-three, either leading or second. However, just a few hours from the end of the race, a collision with another rider caused an extra pit-stop.
