Alex Rins took victory at the Aragon GP after fighting back to fitness.23BIOGRAPHYBirthdate Age Place of birth Weight Height 2017 – An injury hit debut in the Top Class2017 marked his debut in the MotoGP class, joining as a Factory Rider with Team SUZUKI ECSTAR. It turned out to be a baptism of ffre for the Spaniard, who was hit by injuries in the pre-season test, in winter training, and – most costly of all – in Friday Free Practice in Texas, where he broke his right wrist. His recovery took five races, and when he finally got back on his GSX-RR in Assen he had to re-start his whole approach to MotoGP. His improvement since that moment was consistent and fast, allowing him to be fully prepared for a much happier 2018 season. 2018 – Gaining conffidenceThe 2018 season was much smoother sailing, with fewer injuries and an ever improving TEAM SUZUKI RACING NEWS08/12/199525Barcelona (Spain)68 kg176 cm GSX-RR. Rins started with a bang in Argentina, taking his first MotoGP podium (third place). This led him to an outstanding second half of the season with three second places (Netherlands, Malaysia and Valencia) and one third place in Japan - an especially important podium in front of Suzuki Motor Corporation’s President Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki. He closed the year in a great fifth place in the standings. Álex was finally able to confirm his place among the true front runners in the Championship, even leading the way early in the year. After scoring fourth and fifth in the first two races of the season, Álex took a superb victory at the Circuit of the Americas, backing it up with a second place in Spain 2019 – Into a podium pacethree weeks later. His own confidence, coupled with the increased competitiveness of the 2019 GSX-RR, allowed him to achieve a strong season - marred only by a couple of crashes mid-way through the Championship. Álex scored eleven Top 5 finishes, and a second stunning win in Great Britain cemented his and Suzuki’s status as true contenders. His consistent year saw him end 2019 with a very respectable fourth place in the rankings. 2020 – The victory and the podiumAnother injury afiected Alex’s 2020 season, when he crashed in Qualifying at the first race in Jerez dislocating his right shoulder. Due to the Covid-19 rearranged calendar with very close dates, the recovery timings were not as long as needed. Alex fought on through pain and discomfort for the whole first part of the shortened season. When he managed to finally overcome the pain, his performances started to become consistent and strong, setting up an impressive recovery of points that allowed him into a string of podium positions. The first podium in Catalunya, when he finished third, gave him a real boost that led to his first victory of the season in Aragon – the third in his MotoGP career. The following second places in the GP of Teruel and the European GP set him as a title contender till the very last races of the championship. He finally settled for third at the last race in Portimao, completing an historic double-podium in the Championship for Suzuki with his team mate Joan Mir, who won the World title.2020 Winter IssueALEX RINSPROFILE
