Elias and Herrin celebrate a double Yoshimura Suzuki podium at Pittsburgh in August20TEAM SUZUKI RACING NEWSSeca in California on July the 12-14th. Elias had a highly successful weekend coming away with a race win and a close second to further increase his lead in the championship to 39 points. Herrin crashed out of Saturday’s race while battling near the front but came back strong on Sunday to flnish fourth. The Yoshimura Suzuki team gained mixed results at round seven at Sonoma Raceway in California on August the 10-11th, with both Elias and Herrin racing to podiums aboard their GSX-R1000 machinery. It was an up-and-down event for both riders: Elias finished second in Saturday’s race, then crashed while running second early in Sunday’s race. In a reverse of race fortunes, Herrin crashed out early Saturday, but then rallied to finish third on Sunday. Both were thankfully uninjured and Elias retained a 34-point advantage in the title chase.The championship moved on to round eightat Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum on August the 23-25th and it proved to be a good weekend for Elias, taking third place on Saturday and then scoring a brilliant come-from-behind victory aboard the Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 on Sunday to increase his series points lead to 35. Herrin also had a strong weekend, taking a steady seventh on Saturday and then moving up to finish third on Sunday, putting both bikes on the podium.The MotoAmerica action travelled to the penultimate round on September the 7-8th at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey. Despite a tough weekend and missing the podium, with a 4-4 score over the two races, Elias maintained a 16-point lead going into the season ffnale. Herrin also sufiered some set-up problems and came away with a 7-7 score.The final round of the 2019 MotoAmericaSuperbike Championship took place at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, on September the 20-22nd. It proved to be a tough weekend for Elias and the team. The Spanish star, who had held the series lead for most of the season, sufiered set-up problems, but still managed a podium on Saturday with a third-place and a fourth-place finish in Total concentration on the grid from Herrin at the seriesfinale at Barber Motorsports ParkHerrin flanks Elias at the series deciderSunday’s race. Sadly, it wasn’t enough, and he ended the year second in the standings, losing the title chase by just five points. Herrin rode in support of Elias, taking a 4-7 score and fifth place in the championship.Yoshimura Suzuki had a lot to be proudof in 2019. Elias can be proud of the fact that he scored a series-leading seven wins in the season as Herrin pitched in with two additional wins, giving the team a total of nine wins this year.Elias also etched his name in the record books this year, moving into a tie for fourth with Miguel Duhamel on the all-time MotoAmerica/ AMA Superbike wins list with 32-career victories.The Suzuki GSX-R1000 and its Superbike predecessors remain the all-time leader in the MotoAmerica/ AMA Superbike Championship history.2019 marked the 41st season of the Suzuki and Yoshimura Superbike partnership.
