He made a miraculous save aboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000 in Saturday’s race when he ran ofl into a gravel trap and charged back out of it fiat-track style, rear-wheel spinning and gravel fiying to salvage second position. He then came back on Sunday and turned in a strong ride to earn a solid victory. The win, his 26th in MotoAmerica, gave him the series lead going into the second round. Team-mate Herrin made his racing debut with Yoshimura Suzuki enduring a crash on Saturday but rallied to finish a solid fffth in Sunday’s race.Next up was the combined MotoGP/ MotoAmerica weekend at the Circuit of the Americas on April 14th and 15th, and here TEAM SUZUKI RACING NEWSElias wins again at Sonoma Raceway Round 7the Yoshimura Suzuki Racing came away with all of the first-place trophies, winning both MotoAmerica Superbike races with the GSX-R1000 as well as Superpole.Elias got the Texas party started by winning MotoAmerica Superpole and then followed up with a thrilling victory in Superbike Race One on Saturday, with Herrin taking a solid fourth place at the fiag. Then in Sunday’s Superbike Race Two, it was Yoshimura Suzuki finishing 1-2, with Herrin breaking through to scorehis first win of the season and Elias takingsecond. The icing on the cake came in theform of Team SUZUKI ECSTAR also winning theMotoGP race, with Alex Rins and his GSX-RRgiving Suzuki a clean sweep of all races itparticipated in over the weekend.Round three of the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship took place in Alton, Virginia, on May 4-5th, where Elias survived a challenging race weekend with set-up problems and a wet second race, but increased his championship lead, taking a second on Saturday, plus a third on Sunday, giving him a 24-point lead in the table. Herrin had a dificult outing, sufiering a DNF and a seventh place in the two races.The series moved to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, on May 31 to June 2nd, for round four the MotoAmerica Championship and Yoshimura Suzuki Racing dominated the weekend with the GSX-R1000 winning both races. Elias overcame a tough last-lap battle to take victory in Saturday’s first race but suflered a crash and a DNF in the Sunday race. Herrin took fourth place on Saturday and backed-it-up with his second victory of the season on Sunday. Another fine weekend for the team.The championship travelled West to Utah Motorsports Campus near Salt Lake City on June 15-16th for the ffifth round of the series. It proved a big weekend for Elias with the Spanish star winning Saturday’s race convincingly but having to flght even harder to take a thrilling victory in Sunday’s race two. Herrin was suffering from a back injury but still delivered a steady weekend taking a sixth on Saturday and a fourth on Sunday.
