If I had to rank my 2019 season so far, I’d say 7 out of 10. The Team and I have been strong since the start of the year. Unfortunately, things have not gone so well in the last two races, with two crashes, but this is part of racing and I’m ready to come back in the second half of the season, where there are a lot of circuits that I really enjoy and are good for our bike. Something I’ve noticed is that when I’m on track I feel more support from the fans than last year, for example. I started to notice it and feel it towards the end of last year, but this year I really feel it - both when I’m at the circuits, and when I’m at home. The fans show me a lot of support, and in turn I am meeting more of them and signing more autographs! It’s a nice thing because it means I’m doing a good job with my riding. This year some people, fans and the media, have started to compare me with 04TEAM SUZUKI RACING NEWSKevin Schwantz, which is something I really appreciate, and it must mean that we’re doing something right in terms of speed and results! I’m glad to be compared to a champion like him. I don’t feel added pressure from it, it’s simply nice to hear. Riding a MotoGP bike is unique, you need to be aggressive but also smooth. I’m lucky because I have always ridden in a smooth way, and recently I have learned to become more aggressive, that has helped me be in the top group.this season to focus on consistency and to concentrate my mind throughout the race weekend. I’ve given 100% effort, and it has paid off. Together we’ve created a really effective work plan and strategy, which we use at every track, and the results are coming…so I think it’s been a success. I always take the time to sit down with the engineers and my Crew Chief and look at the data so I can I’ve worked really hard with the Team understand everything that’s going on. Last year I dedicated a lot of time to this because we were struggling more, but even though things are much better for us now, I still spend time going over the data and analysing it with the team - it’s important to understand what’s going on in the good moments as well as the bad ones. There’s still a long way to go in this year’s championship, but the 2019 season will always be pretty special for me because of my debut win! That win in Texas was like a dream for me! In fact, I spent two days thinking that I was dreaming, and savouring every moment. It was a really fantastic feeling, one that is hard to explain. But it was a great reward for the hard work that we all put in, and having dinner with the team that night was really incredible - we were all so happy and the celebrations were really nice! After a couple of days I had to move on and start focusing on Jerez, but of course I’ll always treasure those memories of my first MotoGP victory. It’s time for me to sign off for the summer break now! I live in Andorra and I train hard all season, so I will head to the beach for a few days and enjoy some relaxing time! It’s better to go to a beach somewhere far from Andorra….because if I’m near my bikes I will want to ride them! 2019 Issue #1 - SummerTeam SUZUKI ECSTAR’s Alex Rins talks us through the ffirst half of his season, including his ‘winning formula’ with the Team and his plans for the summer break. “I ALWAYS TAKE THE TIME TO SIT DOWN WITH THE ENGINEERS AND MY CREW CHIEF AND LOOK AT THE DATA SO I CAN UNDERSTAND EvERYTHING THAT’S GOING ON”ALeX BLOG RINS “2019 will always be special”
