was not what we expected at the beginning. We struggled so much to get the best performance and therefore the results didn’t come. That’s why our season was a bit like hiking a mountain from the start. We had to make big efforts to fix the problems we found, or at least try to deal with them to improve the performance of the bike during the year. “Luckily, we could gradually improve our efficiency on track and we were completing some steps to finally get back to our ‘normal’ position at the end of 2017 season when we could show better potential in the latest four or five races where we found ourselves closer 03tEAM SUZUKI rACInG nEwSto our main rivals and fight for the Top-5 positions.going on and honestly speaking I believe it’s going to be different for so many reasons: “I have to say the season was not normal as well for our riders. Andrea and Alex arrived at the end of last season and they couldn’t adapt as maybe they thought. Iannone is a very fast rider and now I think he is adapting better to our GSX-RR. It’s a matter of time. On the other hand, Alex struggled a lot to get to know the new category, especially after suffering some incidents in the pre-season and in the early stages of 2017 when he broke his foot and his wrist as well. “Next season, I’m eager to know what’s It’s true we needed to work even harder to fix the problems and to find out how to solve our problems, but after the most-recent tests, we are pretty convinced we found the right direction of working. “Regarding riders’ expectations, we checked that Andrea suited his riding style to our bike much better and Alex learnt a lot about his first MotoGP season. Both are stimulating each other and with more experience on the bike and inside the team they will become stronger. “The only ‘but’, unfortunately, occurred in the Valencia test. Both of our riders were sick but at least we could recover some ground during the Jerez test a week later and we had three riders - including Sylvain Guintoli who completed a great and thorough test program - testing many items. That’s why we finally found a clear direction for the development. Some of these test items have already showed us some secure improvements for 2018.“Now the 2017 season has finished, in our factory we continue to prepare for next season, so these are busy days for all of us. We will continue development carefully, because MotoGP developing is very sensitive right now, but overall, we are quite confident for the 2018 season. Personally, I am optimistic because both of our riders are so motivated, and I think the path of working we choose is the good one.”2017 Issue #3 - WinterShinichi Sahara, Suzuki’s MotoGP™ Project leader and SMC racing Group Manager, talks about the 2017 season, pre-2018 testing and believes ‘the path of working we choose is the good one.’SHINICHI BLOG SAHARA “Ihave to be honest as the 2017 season ‘I’m optimisticfor 2018’
