shoes. By being at the front, it meant I could catch on to any passing bikes and benefit from their draft. I was three laps in by the time young Aussie Edward Faulkhead came past me on the back straight. He tapped the back of his seat and I needed no second invitation. I slotted in behind him and got a mouthful of stones from the crumbling tarmac that were pinged my way at 80mph. It wasn’t possible to catch him in the draft, but I could at least keep his pace. Better still, I soon learned I had the legs on him in a few corners and I was buzzing, even after the rest of the pack came charging past in a group of 10 and robbed ‘Ned’ from me in the process. He’d been behind me up until that point in the qualifying times, but the minute he got drafting in the big group he knocked two seconds off and ended the session right up in the sharp-end of the action. As for me, I slowly edged back to 13th on the grid. 21tEAM SUZUKI rACInG nEwSImmaculate SAC garage.Mackenzie (right) provides moral support2017 Issue #3 - Winter‘BY BEInG At tHE FrOnt, It MEAnt I COUld CAtCH On tO AnY PASSInG BIKES And BEnEFIt FrOM tHEIr drAFt’
