2018 where we would have had a very young MXGP team with good, young riders. Plus, we got the new 450 this year for the first year after a long, long time to have a new Suzuki bike. This was of course also really coming into the right moment to have a new bike. Overall, I was hoping to do more podiums and maybe some victory in the MXGP and winning the MX2 title, but at the end of the day, the direction that everything was moving was good and positive. I have to be happy what I have done in this short period.” Regarding the new bike, how nice was it to have that boost coming into this second year with all the publicity and the excitement that a new bike brings?“It came in the right moment for us. For me personally it came on the right moment, coming in, being the new Suzuki face and running the team, and then straight away we have that new bike coming in. For me, the timing was great. It was fantastic. Unfortunately, we couldn’t bring the results that we had to do, to be more on the podium and taking some wins. To rebuild this team with the younger boys, it takes time again. The bike came on a good time, but maybe also a bit too soon, because everyone expects a new bike and then expects results also and we couldn’t bring those results. But I’m sure that they will come in the future with that new bike. The bike looks really nice. It’s got a good base and it’s got everything there to go and do it.” Can you talk about your decision to hire Arminas Jasikonis midway through 2016, as a rider who was pretty much unknown at the time?“When Ben (Townley) injured himself in Italy and it was game over, the tools that I had available to me at the time were not much. Financially it was dificult to sign a big rider, plus there was no big rider available which was fitting in that position. So, I had to be very inventive and look for another solution. I saw AJ a couple of times and I always kept him in the back of my mind as maybe a plan B. So, after Ben’s injury, I went back to my thoughts and I said, okay, let’s give 28TEAM SUZUKI RACING NEwSit a shot. I see some good potential in this kid. At the end, I was right. He had to work hard for it. I still think he didn’t do all he could in the first year, even that a lot of new things came towards him. I still believe he could have done a little bit better than he did. He knows that also himself, but at the end I was happy with my move. This was also part of my job to do that.
