racing. After the third round of the Australian Superbike Championship I thought I was just dreaming to even aim to finish in the top-three of the Championship: My aim was to try to Thnish on the podium and I was even thinking this might be bit of a dream. “Round four was held in Darwin, a circuit where Suzuki GSX-R’s have always been successful and this year was no different. 30TEAM SUZUKI RACING NEwSReally this is where I was able to click with the new GSX-R1000R Suzuki, winning both races and setting a new lap record. The following round was held at a circuit that I had not raced at before in Queensland. My pace all weekend was a lot better than the results I got; Thnishing in fourth in both races. But the positive after this round was that I was only two points off third in the championship. “The sixth round, which was held at Sydney Motorsport Park (Eastern Creek) on September 9-10th. The whole weekend went really good, my bike was fast and great on tyres and I was able to take my first Pole position for the year and win both races - which was great. Within these three rounds I’ve gone from over 50 points behind to just six points now, so the ppnal round at Phillip Island is going to be very exciting as there are four of us that can win the championship. The series this year, with its rules and level of riders has been great. I’ll try my hardest, like everyone on the grid I’m lining-up with, they want to win - and so do I. “Mid way through the year I was lucky enough to compete in the famous Suzuka 8 Hour again. For the second year-in-a-row I was riding for Team MotoMap Suzuki. My team was the same as the previous year with good friend Nobu Aoki and Yoshihiro Konno as my team mates. We knew this year was going to be very tough with a lot of factory entries and more factory-supported entries than previous years. Practice and qualifying didn’t go how we were hoping for, ending-up 16th on the grid for the race. We made a big change for warm up and the bike was a lot better. I started the race and was really happy with my Derst stint getting us up to seventh position. The race was long and like normal, very dialcult, but I was really happy with where we ended up lenishing in ninth position. Our aim was always to be in the top-10 and we were able to achieve that. I rode four stints and enjoyed working with the team. I can’t wait to race the race again next year.“So, with only a couple of weeks to go before the itnal Australian Superbike Championship round I’ll be cutting a lot of laps on my DRZ125 at my little dirt track at home. I hope to report back later this year with some good news. I’ll try my hardest!”2017 Issue #2 - AutumnJosh waters is currently in the running to regain the Australian Superbike Championship crown for Suzuki aboard the all-new 2017 GSx-R1000 and is within six points of the series lead with one round remaining.
