ENGINE:Peak power is tuned to around 203bhp, with most of the increase over standard (183bhp) coming from longer duration camshafts and Yoshimura factory-ported cylinder heads. Endurance rules limit anything other than standard components beneath the cylinder, though the head gasket can be altered, with thicknesses varying to suit the characteristics of the track being ridden. The standard gearbox works well and it’s only when different ratios are needed that aftermarket gears are used. MOTECH:The SERT team uses the Motech M170 package, combined with a kit loom. The core focus is to optimise the 10 different levels of traction control, calibrated according to lean angle and wheel speeds. Fuelling is also crucial for endurance racing, with the Motech package allowing for an optimum fuelled map, plus an economical option to reduce the rate of consumption on the fly.SUSPENSION:48mm Öhlins FGR300 forks and TTX36 GP shock are fully adjustable, and feature both high and low speed compression damping and rebound. The shim stacks and top-out springs are often changed to suit different tracks, but the weight distribution bias remains almost typically at 55% front and 45% rear.40QUICK RELEASE:Components have to be rapidly interchangeable, the fairing has quarter-turn Dzus fasteners and block connections throughout the wiring loom, so any area can be changed quickly. The wheel spindles have captive nuts, while the dry-line brake system means the callipers can be easily swapped. Also, a pressurised oil filling system means engine oil can be added quickly, and is self-sealing once the filler’s removed. BRAKES:Nissin six-pot factory racing callipers massively improve the performance of the Suzuki’s braking, paired with racing steel discs and rotors. During a race, the front callipers will be replaced with fresh units at the 12-hour stage. The rear, single piston Nissin is mounted under the disc, instead of on top, to aid with rear wheel changes. WEIGHT: The SERT bike weighs 185kg, making it 20kg lighter than the standard production machine. This difference is mostly due to magnesium wheels, carbon Kevlar fairings, a carbon under-tray, lightweight lithium battery and racing components such as clip-ons and ear sets. The minimum weight accepted in the series is 165kg, but the SERT team chooses to use the standard bike’s components in a lot of instances, such as the sub-frame, owing to the strength and ability to withstand damage during a crash.
