in Ahmedabad, India

Suzuki Motor Corporation (headquarters: Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan; President: Toshihiro Suzuki; hereinafter, “Suzuki”) has signed a memorandum of understanding to commence studies toward the introduction of next-generation mobility in a terminal station in the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, together with Thoth Infrastructure Private Limited (headquarters: Delhi, India; Founder and CEO: Sameer Parikh; hereinafter, “Thoth”), a company focused on transit-oriented development in India, and Glydways Inc. (headquarters: California, USA; Co-CEOs: Mark Seeger, Blake Barber; hereinafter, “Glydways”), in which Suzuki has invested and with which Suzuki has strategic collaboration.
The parties will explore the possibility of introducing a public transportation system developed by Glydways, with the aim of improving accessibility around Sabarmati Multimodal Hub—a terminal station in the Sabarmati area of Ahmedabad where bullet train is planned to connect—and contributing to redevelopment of the surrounding area.
Glydways’ innovative public transportation system, Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), enables the transport of multiple passengers through efficient autonomous operation of mini-vehicle-size compact electric vehicles on dedicated lanes. The system can be introduced at lower cost, while also contributing to alleviating traffic congestion and reducing environmental impact.

In the Sabarmati area, where demand for short-distance travel within the city is high, and access to the station is expected to increase due to the connection of the bullet train, it is considered to be one of the most optimal means of mobility.

Suzuki will continue to contribute to the medium- to long-term development of India through its role in providing infrastructure mobility that is closely aligned with local communities, including this initiative.
