Suzuki, Magneti Marelli, and Maruti Suzuki to Establish Diesel Engine Control Unit Manufacturer in India

Suzuki Motor Corporation, Maruti Suzuki India, and Italy’s Magneti Marelli Powertrain have agreed to jointly establish a company to produce engine control units (ECUs) for diesel engines in India.

Maruti Suzuki India (Suzuki’s Indian automobile production and marketing company) equips vehicles with 1.3-litre diesel engines made by Suzuki Powertrain India (a Suzuki engine production subsidiary based in Manesar, Haryana). It currently sources ECUs for the engines from Fiat of Italy.

The new company will perform on-site production of ECUs, which influence the fuel economy, environmental performance, and power performance of the engines they control and the overall performance of the vehicles in which the engines are fitted. It will receive technical assistance regarding ECU hardware and software from Magneti Marelli Powertrain.

Sourcing ECUs from the new company will enable Maruti Suzuki India to produce better vehicles and make cost savings.
