Maruti Udyog Ltd. was awarded
for dedication to Creation of Japanese Brand in India

Suzuki’s automobile production/distribution subsidiary in India, Maruti Udyog, Ltd. (New Delhi, Managing Director: Mr. Jagdish Khattar) was commended by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, as a Dedicated Company to Creation of Japanese Brand.

The prize for Dedication to Creation of Japanese Brand is an award for Japanese/overseas companies which dedicate to penetration of Japanese brand/service in overseas markets and it was announced on August 25 by the Ministry.

Maruti Udyog, Ltd. has achieved accumulated 5 million units of production in this April counting from the first production in 1983. It is winning approximately 54% of the market share in passenger car category, and Maruti and Suzuki brand has been very well known in Indian domestic market.

On September 15, the testimonial was bestowed on the managing director, Mr. J. Khattar by the Japanese ambassador to India, His Excellency Mr. Yasukuni Enoki.

Mr. J. Khattar commented, “Suzuki Motor Corporation built up a foundation of automotive industrial progress. Suzuki introduced modern installation to India practicing Japanese business approach, and established a technologically high level of parts supply network which facilitated other global firms to come into the Indian market. Suzuki Motor Corporation, for Indian people, is very special in the fact that it created a great deal of employment and realized an ordinary citizen’s dream of having a car.”
