Suzuki is one of those rare manufacturers, which makes both cars and motorcycles. At the Paris Motor Show, Suzuki is introducing an ultra-lightweight, very sporty car: the "GSX-R/4" roadster. This unusual car is both a concept car and a style study, and makes use of technologies from both these fields. The GSX-R/4 is a concept car with very distinctive technical features, both in terms of its shape and the technology it uses. The GSX-R/4 is an ultra compact roadster (3.55 metres long and 1.73 metres wide), designed and built like a racing car. Suzuki, a renowned specialist in compact cars, has made full use of its know-how in this field for the design of this roadster. It has the 1300 cc engine of the Suzuki GSX 1300R-Hayabusa, one of the fastest standard production motorcycles in the world. This engine develops 129 kW (175 bhp) at 9800 rpm with a maximum torque of 138 Nm at 7000 rpm. The extremely lightweight, rigid tubular aluminium chassis stems from Suzuki expertise in the design of racing motorcycle frames. The double-wishbone suspension with horizontal coil-over shocks gives an additional sportiness, just like that conveyed by the company in the motorcycle field. The bodywork is made of recyclable synthetic material. This all combines to give a weight of 640 Kg, thus giving the GSX-R/4 an exceptional weight-to-power ratio. "Advanced Navigation System" This exclusive computer system devised by Suzuki enables the driver to display the track on which he is driving on a screen and to make the best use of the capabilities of the car. In fact, the GSX-R/4 has been designed and developed to give a sporty, involving drive, using a very sophisticated computer system which will optimise and control a large number of settings on the vehicle. With this system the driver can make various changes on the car (adjust the lighting, the injection, etc) and store them in the system memory for subsequent use, in order to adapt the GSX-R/4 to the features of each race circuit. The GSX-R/4 is fitted with the same system as the "CONCEPT-S" (see specific item). |
