Speech draft for the 2002 Geneva Motor Show

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, and thank you for coming to the Suzuki booth. I am Hirotaka Ono, Director and Senior General Manager of Europe Automobile Marketing Division at Suzuki Motor Corporation, and I feel honored to take this opportunity to make a major announcement here to you today.

Suzuki is well known around the world as a specialist in the field of small car production, making vehicles that are both unique and high quality. And their popularity shows, with our global sales having reached 30 million units as of the end of 2001, thanks to our customers here in Europe.

Today, I am very pleased to be able to state that Suzuki continues this trend, with two attractive new models, both of which express our tradition and innovative capability.

The first is the Brand New Alto. This is a full model change of our Small Bestseller, which has sold more than 7.3 million units worldwide since its debut in 1979. The newly developed 1.1 litre engine on a compact, stylish body makes it a suitable partner for every aspect of the modern-day, on-the-go lifestyle. Moreover, this new Alto combines extremely high fuel efficiency with low CO2 emission levels, making it a car that is friendly for the people, and for the earth. The brand new Alto is a vehicle well suited to the present-day needs of our customers in Europe and around the world.
The second new model we have here to introduce is the Liana Sedan. This is the four-door version of the Liana five-door hatchback that was launched here in Geneva last year. The completely new, unique and well-proportioned height packaging sedan was born of a pursuit for maximum space efficiency without being trapped by conformity. The secret to this success is our know-how acquired through decades of experience as a leading small car manufacturer. Large cargo and passenger cabin space remain in the compact body, and eye-catching triangle motif designs accentuate its elegant styling. The Liana sedan proposes a "Life In A New Age," just like the letters in the name "LIANA" represent.

After you have looked over these two new models, I would like to remind you to take a look at the exhibition space over there. In it you will find the Ignis Super 1600, the performance machine that is making its mark in the Junior World Rally Championship that started in January. With the Ignis Super 1600, not only do we intend to take home first prize, but also to make use of the experience and information obtained from the race for our production vehicle development.

And now in closing, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to thank you all for your attention, while leaving you with the promise that Suzuki will continue to bring you unique vehicles that are high quality, fun to drive, and that add a touch of originality to our customers' lifestyle. Thank you very much, and please enjoy the rest of the show at Suzuki booth.
