3 Grand Vitaras won
the 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall placing in the Silverstone 4x4 Rally of Asia 2001,
held from August 11th – 19th, 2001.
The Silverstone 4x4 Rally of Asia is recognized as a premier 4x4 cross country
rally sanctioned by Federation Internationale De L’Automobile (FIA), Automobile
Association of Malaysia (AAM) and the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand
(RAAT). This is the 6th running of the event and the rally started from Kuala
Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and moved southward along the coast of Peninsular
Malaysia. Then the rally went up towards Phuket, Thailand, and came back to Malaysia
to finish in Penang, covering a distance of about 3,300 km.
The performances of these 3 Grand Vitaras exceeded powerful rivals such as Toyota
Hilux and the Isuzu Rodeo to win the top three overall placing.
