Suzuki has been installing diesel engines of other manufacturers mainly onto overseas models but now has developed a 2-cylinder 0.8L E08A diesel engine in-house to meet the demand in the Indian market.The E08A diesel engine has realized weight-saving by adopting aluminum for the material of the cylinder block and installing a compact fuel distributor system and turbo charger suited for a 2-cylinder engine. Suzuki Opens New Automobile Plant in IndonesiaIndonesian subsidiary PT. Suzuki Indomobil Motor (SIM) opened a new automobile assembly line in May, at the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) in Bekasi Regency east of Jakarta. Attending the ceremony were Indonesian Minister of Trade Rahmat Gobel, Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Yasuaki Tanizaki and SMC Chairman / CEO Osamu Suzuki.The Cikarang Plant – which began producing engines and transmissions in 2014 - currently conducts casting and forging, machining, heat treatment and assembly, to raise the ratio of internal production and local procurement. Upon completion of the new plant, the assembly of MPV model Ertiga was transferred from the Tambun Plant to Cikarang, which now has capacity for complete vehicle production, including assembly, bringing Suzuki total Indonesian automobile production to 250,000 units, which will gradually be increased.Suzuki Collaboration with PROTON Initiates in Malaysia SMC and Malaysian national car maker Proton Holdings Berhad (PROTON) announced a major collaboration in a signing ceremony in June. At the ceremony SMC Chairman and CEO Osamu Suzuki said “Through the collaboration with PROTON from now on, we would like to develop a comprehensive synergy between the two companies. Also in attendance at the ceremony were former Malaysian Prime Minister and Chairman of PROTON Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.Under terms of the collaboration agreement SMC will supply KD components for a Suzuki automobile model to PROTON, who will manufacture, distribute and sell the model under the PROTON brand in Malaysia. The first model will be a compact passenger car, to be manufactured at PROTON’s Tanjung Malim plant beginning around August 2016. Maruti Suzuki Rolls Out 15 Millionth Vehicle Maruti Suzuki India Limited (Maruti Suzuki) achieved 15 million accumulated production units in May. The SMC Indian subsidiary started production in 1983 with the Maruti 800 model, followed by models such as the Omni, the Wagon R, the Alto and the Swift, bringing accumulated production to 10 million by March 2011.Recently Maruti introduced models such as the Ertiga, the Celerio and the Ciaz, along with diesel engine variants to suit the Indian market. The 15 millionth vehicle was a Swift Dzire, a sedan variant of the Swift. In response to the ever-growing Indian market, Suzuki is constructing a new plant in Gujarat, with an annual production capacity of 250,000 units, which will bring the annual overall maximum production capacity in India to 1.75 million units.
