2016 PARIS MOTOR SHOW
Suzuki Booth Tour
Combining a stylish appearance with versatile functionality, the Ignis is a simple and iconic compact crossover that inherits design elements from previous Suzuki models, while at the same time introducing a new unique sense of personality.
Suzuki’s lightweight and highly rigid new-generation platform incorporates a newly designed suspension system that delivers excellent handling, while the 1.2 DUALJET engine provides powerful performance and excellent fuel economy.
The Ignis also benefits by adopting SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki), a lightweight, compact mild hybrid system that uses an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) with an integrated power generator and electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery pack. It is an optimum system for use in a compact car that combines with the new-generation platform and DUALJET engine to realise even better fuel economy.
The SX4 S-CROSS launched in 2013 was the successor of the SX4 that pioneered the crossover category. It took design, utility, driving performance and fuel economy to whole new levels. The SX4 S-CROSS facelift includes significant changes to its front design and the adoption of larger wheels and tyres which give the model a tougher, more sophisticated look that befits an SUV.
The SX4 S-CROSS facelift also offers a choice of two Suzuki BOOSTERJET direct-injection turbo engines (1.0L and 1.4L), which achieve a fine balance between environmental and dynamic performance.
Since the LJ10 went on sale in the Japanese market in 1970 as the first four-wheel drive compact SUV, Suzuki has been striving to develop four-wheel drive vehicles and honing its related technologies. Suzuki has provided optimum four-wheel drive vehicles to drivers with widely varying lifestyles in diverse driving conditions and in an expanded range of activities.
With the new Ignis joining its line-up of four-wheel drive vehicles at the Paris Motor Show, Suzuki carefully reflected on its years of success in developing four-wheel drive technologies and decided to group them together under the ALLGRIP name to bring their value to a broader audience. Suzuki is now making it possible for each customer to choose an ALLGRIP variant that best suits their lifestyle by announcing the following three subcategories: ALLGRIP AUTO, ALLGRIP SELECT and ALLGRIP PRO.
The outdoor-themed Ignis in bright Flame Orange Pearl Metallic sits strongly, emphasising its SUV appearance with a khaki kayak loaded on top.
The BOOSTERJET is a newly developed direct-injection turbo engine that is characterised by improved fuel-efficiency and driving pleasure, which is made possible by using a small displacement, high torque turbocharger.
By controlling the wastegate valve, which closes to create higher boost pressure during heavy-load operation and remains open during normal driving, the BOOSTERJET reduces pumping loss, thus achieving high levels of both power and fuel-efficiency performance. The engine employs six-hole nozzle fuel injectors, atomised fuel injection technologies and high-tumble port technologies to inject fuel with a high combustion efficiency for greater fuel economy and improved power output.
The BOOSTERJET engine has been developed with Suzuki’s ethos of reducing weight and size, with added responsiveness and smoothness to achieve the characteristics Suzuki engines are renowned for. It comes in the two displacement sizes of 1.0 litre and 1.4 litres.
The SHVS is a mild hybrid system by Suzuki that uses an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) to assist the engine when accelerating and to generate electricity through regenerative braking, which it does more efficiently than systems using conventional alternators.
Using the electricity stored after being generated through regenerative braking, the electric motor function of the ISG improves fuel efficiency by partially assisting the engine, which it does by making up for the added portion of fuel usually required during the high-fuel-consuming actions of starting from a stop and accelerating. It also allows for a smooth and quiet restart after an automatic engine stop, thanks to the use of an ISG belt-drive start, rather than restart by a conventional starter motor.
New Generation Platform
A new Suzuki platform was developed by radically reviewing the basic structure of the vehicle underbody in pursuit of achieving lighter weight and enhancing fundamental vehicle performance. Compared to the platform currently used in the same vehicle class, body rigidity has been enhanced by approximately 10% and, due to the use of a continuous skeletal structure that creates a smooth form, total vehicle weight has been reduced by approximately 15%. Additionally, by aiming for not partial optimisation but rather optimisation of the entire vehicle including components attached to the underbody, Suzuki has been able to keep vibration and noise in check, while maintaining riding comfort.
In 2017, the race to land the first privately funded spacecraft on the surface of the moon will reach its climax…
Google Lunar XPRIZE.
Sixteen teams from around the world are competing for prizes worth a total of US$30 million.
Each team has a three-part mission:
1. Successfully land spacecraft on the lunar surface
2. Travel 500 metres
3. Transmit high-definition video and images back to Earth
The rules are simple: the first team to complete the mission before the end of 2017, wins.
However, the mission itself is anything but simple.
Temperatures on the moon exceed 100°C during the day and fall below -150°C at night.
The lunar surface is covered with extremely fine powder that all too easily can cause the wheels to slip.
How will Japan’s Team HAKUTO meet this celestial off-road challenge?
With a proven ability to carve roads out of nothing, Suzuki can be a natural part of the solution.
The Suzuki Ignis 360° World Tour is a virtual reality programme which lets you experience exciting lifestyles with the Ignis around the world. At the end of the route, you can select your favorite scene, put freehand painting and take a picture of the Ignis.
The distinctive design DNA of the Cervo transcended to the new Ignis in the front grille with headlamps integrated and in the C-pillars with slits.
The production of the Cevo started in 1977, and it was introduced to Europe as SC100. In UK (launched in 1979) it was known as Whizzkid and developed a near instant cult following.
This special version of the SX4 S-CROSS is named "S-CROSS Cruising Concept," which is a perfect fit for those who fully enjoy their time off with going cruising in the sea.
In special dislay area reminiscent of a marina, the S-CROSS Cruising Concept sits side by side with our outboard engine DF300AP.
White colour accent items on the Neon Blue Metallic exterier complement the iconic styling of the Ignis. Being displayed with the Glacier White SV650, the urban-themed version produces a vibrant atmosphere.
