Suzuki conducts an inauguration ceremony for the new facilities of the three Indian subsidiaries

Suzuki Motor Corporation (Suzuki) has conducted an inauguration ceremony on February 6 at Manesar, Haryana of India for the three new production facilities written below:

  • A new Manesar Plant of Maruti Udyog Limited (Maruti), the automobile manufacturing and sales subsidiary.
  • A new Manesar Plant of Suzuki Powertrain India Limited (SPIL), the engine manufacturing subsidiary.
  • A new Gurgaon Plant of Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), the motorcycle manufacturing and sales subsidiary.

Osamu Suzuki, Chairman & CEO of SMC, and Jagdish Khatter, Managing Director of Maruti attended the ceremony held at the Manesar Plant of Maruti along with the guests, His Excellency Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister of Haryana and His Excellency Mr. Yasukuni Enoki, Ambassador of Japan to India, and others.

Outlines of the new plants of the three companies

(1)Maruti Udyog Limited (new Manesar Plant) - automobile manufacturing and sales company.

The construction of the new plant was decided on September 2004 in order to increase the production capacity to meet the demand of growing Indian automobile market.

The new Manesar plant started with an initial production capacity of 100,000 units per year. It will be increased to 300,000 units in 2009.
With the new Marsar Plant, the production volume of Maruti, which is currently 630,000 units per year, will be increased to 960,000 units in its 2009 fiscal year, and Maruti will produce new products in the new factory.

(2)Suzuki Powertrain India Limited (new Manesar Plant) - engine manufacturing company.

The plant was constructed at the site next to the new Marsar Plant of Maruti. Under a license agreement with Fiat Auto, the company will produce diesel engines of which vehicles represent 30% of the total car sales in the Indian market. The initial production capacity is 100,000 units a year.

(3)Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (new Gurgaon Plant) - motorcycle manufacturing and sales company.

The new Gurgaon Plant has started its operation since March 2006 in order to expand the Suzuki motorcycle sales in India, which market size is reaching 7,500,000 units. The factory produces two models of 125cc motorcycles.
