The Suzuki Swift is winning prestigious ‘Car of the Year’ awards in countries around the globe, among them Iceland, Ireland and Japan (see pages 2-3).
On 23 October, 2005 the Suzuki Swift was presented the “Steel Steering Wheel” as Car of the Year 2006 in Iceland as the top choice of all eight judges. “With this new Swift Suzuki takes a giant jump ahead…. This car offers all that can be expected in this category: good equipment, good engines and reasonable price. Interior space is very good in the front and reasonable in the back, the luggage compartment is rather small but sufficient. Handling is one of the best in this category. The exterior design is excellent… you see at once that it is a Suzuki Swift and nothing else,” the judges commented. In addition, the Suzuki Grand Vitara earned 5th place.
A month later, the Irish Motoring Writers Association awarded the Suzuki Swift “Semperit 2006 Irish Car of the Year” at a ceremony on 24 November, 2005 in Dublin. The Swift earned points for criteria ranging from innovation to safety, including space, comfort, fabrication quality, handling and value for the money.
Presenting the award to General Manager Niall O’Gorman of Suzuki Cars (Ireland), Paddy Murphy of Semperit Ireland commented: “From 33 original contenders for this year’s award, the Irish motoring writers have selected an exciting model that has been very well received by journalists and motorists alike.”
